Hmmm.... I am a new player (got GW for 2 months now) and I don't get the whining either.
I very enthousiasticly started creating enough characters to fill my empty slots, played with all of them a bit, deleted, recreated, and generally mucked about. It helped me get a bit of a feel for the game, and for which classes suit me or not.
I have 5 characters now, 3 of which have reached a point where I bought them max stat armor. Another one had that as well, but got deleted
That is just the 1.5K armor from Kaining centre. Crafting materials haven't been a problem, I either have them, buy them, or get some donated by a guildie. But then again, i've given materials to other guildies in return. Money isn't a problem in this game, you can get max armor and weapons quite easily and cheaply, if anything from the collectors.
I don't think the problem is noobs, the problem is the way kids are raised nowadays. They want everything maxed out, and everything now. Both in real life and in game. they want to be run up to Drok's Forge at level 3, they want money to buy 15K or FOW and the leetest greens, and they want others to supply it. If not, they'll use daddy's credit card to buy it.
Not all kids are like that, but as a mum looking at my kids friends, a lot are.
And maybe that's why I don't care so much. Don't get me wrong, I like nice looking armor as much as the next girl, but FOW doesn't even look that great. It is just a status symbol, and I don't care much for those.
As a mum I've learned to budget, learned that a sweater bought at Primarks keeps me warm just as much as one bought at GAP, and can look just as nice
the game is the same.
I think this game is great for beginners, you can quite easily reach the max level, get max armor and max weapons even if you are a casual player. And if you invest more time in the game, you can look forward to armor that costs more, items that are rare and so on. but it isn't too hard to catch up with friends who have been playing longer then you, because your level, armor level and weapon specs will be the same as theirs, even if they look slightly different
New players should realise this, be happy that they get at the same level (gear and level wise, not gameplay experienced wise) as older players so easily and that they still have a lot to look forward to at the same time. Buy 1.5 K armor now, it does just as well, and get 15K or FOW over time once you can afford it.

I actually got refused entry into a group because of my fow armor. I was told to qoute "go f**K off with your noob armor". He then started spamming. Dont let the ebayer into your group. I can't beleive I farmed all that ecto and shards just to get stereotyped and refused entry into a pug.

I too am one of the "have nots", but thats because I see no reason whatsoever for FoW armor, or "perfect" items. I have some that are near perfect, and theyre fine. If I happen to come across something better, Ill use that, but I dont go farming(too tedious). I dont even go after certain item, I just go out on a mission or just travel from one place to another, and if I happen to get something I like, so be it. I damn sure aint paying these(in my opinion)ridiculously high price for what seems to be mostly cosmetics.

It's Clear to Me - Very Few Earn The Stuff
I've watched online for a short time compared to lots of you. I watch people join our guild / alliance. I've seen them post that they'll just DIE if they don't get the coolest armor. When they get it, they have to scream it from the rooftops. Then, they have it. The chase is over.
Based on the amount of time these people put into the game (I'm online quite a bit), there is no way they could farm enough money to afford the items they have. They want it, they get it. What I hate is the attitude of the one who brags about how hard s/he worked to get there, and on and on. Suddenly the person is a know it all pro.
The most I've spent on armor is from Droks or House Zu Heltzer. If I get a dye drop, I may use it if I'm bored. The only thing I truly care about are the stats.
Every time one of the "want-it-now's" meets their contact from eBay for their gold, item, etc., there's a good chance they're being hacked. I hear screaming the next day that all their (insert item here) is gone.
Few of us are above some kind of spending urge, eBay'ing, paying for runs, etc. Just don't run around telling me you earned it when you can't explain your build, or the past missions. The game is actually fun to play on it's own. I'm certainly not the paragon of virtue, just don't like the blow hards who really feel they've accomplished something because they BOUGHT something.
All in good fun.

The n00bs, such as myself, aren't the problem. Its the people who go out of their way to flaunt their wealth. Sure if they worked for what they have then they should be proud but calling someone a n00b because they don't have max this or max that is insulting and disheartening. Why make fun of someone who isn't as far in the game as you and obviously doesn't have as much experience? I could sort of understand it in PvP but in PvE? PvE isn't a competition. Its supposed to be a fun adventure, not a forum for braggarts to rag on people. I work hard for what little I have(I'm close to completing my MM armor from Kaineng!!) and I think as long as you're happy with what you have then you're ok. I've always wondered what the point is in playing the game if you're just going to get stuff off of eBay. You suck at life if you're that lazy.

Could care less that somebody else has 100k+ coins and fancy colored armor and I don't...
If by playing the game fully I can get the things I need to successfully play the game, I'm good to go.
But I do care that this situation creates a demand in places like ebay that in turn fuels the presence of bots and farming in the game... The bots and the farming and the trade spam that results create an anti-social environment in the game - and that I do care about.

I'v only played for about 6 months, but even i understand that it takes time to earn money.Plus Arena net is making it easier cause of the new salvage options so you can just make you own perfect weapon from what you farm, buy, ect.

I would like to point out that if you play your cards right that your fortunes can change quickly. I purposely went through NF quickly and got a very attractively-modded green after the final boss so that I could make a bit of cash off of it. Turns out a bit is 100k + ectos. The scythe looked like a chicken leg too.

LoL, I don't want to get into a philosophical discussion, but that's not what I meant. Martin Luther King had a dream, not ambition, he didn't care how well he did personally, but rather the people he represented. Ken Lay had greed (and ambition), which landed him square in prison.
Here's the definition of "ambition" from dictionary.com:
Quote:
an earnest desire for some type of achievement or distinction, as power, honor, fame, or wealth, and the willingness to strive for its attainment
|
Note that the achievement it's talking about is personal, something to advance one's own agendas, nothing altruistic about that.
